2023 Austin Pond Tour

Sherry and Hugh's Pond & Gardens

We started building our pond the last week of December, 2022. This is an owner-built pond that required 60 truckloads of dirt to be imported and approximately 40 tons of rock that was harvested straight from our lot and personally moved into location by my husband and I. We take great pride in having built this ourselves.

As Greg from Aquascapes likes to say, “big, bigger, biggest!" Our first house had a 2,000-gallon pond that was on the 2015 pond tour. We knew the new place would need to be bigger. Our pond consists of a 9,000-gallon pond, an 1,100-gallon intake bay, and a 500-gallon wetland filter. The rain gutters empty into the intake bay and wetland filter to allow for rainwater collection.

Our property sits atop a steep driveway that we will provide a UTV to transport people who need assistance. Once up there, the view of the valley beyond the pond is worth seeing and pretty amazing. The pond has been stocked with numerous rescue fish, including our first baby koi that we are excited about.

This project has been quite the endeavor that we are super proud of and hope you’ll come out to see the final product.
